Mechanical behaviour and fatigue life of engineering components
under multiaxial fatigue |

Abstract: |
The aim of
the thesis was the development of an analytical method for the
approximate calculation of the stress-strain state and fatigue life
of engineering components under multiaxial fatigue. This aim has
been achieved using state of the art programming tools and
engineering software packages. The proposed method has been
evaluated by comparing its results with corresponding experimental
data. The elastic-plastic mechanical behaviour on smooth specimens
and notched shafts under uniaxial and multiaxial, proportional and
non-proportional fatigue has been systematically investigated by
means of respective analytical methods and the finite element
method. A parametric design and elastic-plastic finite element
analysis procedure has been developed by means of respective program
code, and two state of the art analytical methods for the
approximate calculation of elastic-plastic stress-strain state on
engineering components have been upgraded. A damage assessment
method has also been developed for the approximate calculation of
fatigue life under multiaxial loading. The comparison of the fatigue
life approximate results, derived from the proposed method, with
corresponding experimental data, verified the capability of the
method to provide approximate fatigue life calculations of
exceptional accuracy. |
